We’re so done with credit score BS. Not because they’re completely useless. They can tell you something about a person’s credit history. But that doesn’t tell you anything close to the whole story. And when a credit score becomes the most important thing about a person, it can lead to some pretty bad decisions.
Like many things nowadays, there’s a better way to look at it. And we found it.
Credit Scores Don’t Tell the Whole Story
Before COVID, things were a little more predictable. Credit scores generally gave lenders a decent snapshot of how someone had handled their credit.
But then the world changed. Payments were paused. Jobs changed. Expenses changed. Student loan payments were put on hold and eventually started back up. People’s financial situations changed in ways that don’t always show up neatly in a three-digit number.
We figured out pretty quick that if you’re judging someone today based only on their credit score, you’re missing a lot.
Maybe someone has a 646 credit score because they’re rebuilding their credit. Maybe they have a thin credit file. Maybe they have several recent inquiries because they’ve been trying to find a vehicle they can actually afford.
Does that automatically mean they won’t make their car payments? Of course not.
That’s why your credit score is one of the things we consider least when looking at a loan application.
We Look at the Big Picture
A lot of dealerships and lenders rely heavily on automated underwriting systems. They plug in the information, then they let the software crunch the numbers and just see what comes out.
They can be useful. But they also make things pretty impersonal.
At Cincinnati Auto Credit, we believe a person is more than a number. We look at the bigger picture. We consider your income, employment, down payment, residence, payment history and overall situation. We talk to you. We listen. And then we make a decision based on the person sitting in front of us, not just the number attached to their name.
That approach matters because we've seen more and more people come through our doors after getting turned away elsewhere. Other dealerships rely heavily on automated systems that see a credit score they don't like and say, "Nope."
We'd rather have a conversation.
Everything Feels Automated These Days
Maybe you've noticed, but life feels pretty automated lately.
You call customer service and get a robot. You need tech support and spend 20 minutes trying to convince a chatbot that you aren't a robot. 95% of every video you see online was clearly made by AI.
Everything is faster and more automated. And everything feels a little less real. Buying a car shouldn't have to feel that way.
If you come to one of our dealerships, you'll be dealing with actual people. People who understand that life happens and that your credit score doesn't tell us everything we need to know about you.
You're not a number in a computer system. You're a customer. And we'd much rather get to know you than let a three-digit number make the decision for us.
Think your credit score is going to keep you from getting approved? Don't assume. Come talk to us. Give us a chance, and we might see things a little differently.
