If you’ve seen any of our TV commercials over the last few decades, or even read any of our blog posts, then you’re probably familiar with our company slogan. “Give us a chance and we’ll give you a chance!” Catchy, right? But it’s not just something we say to get you to remember our name. Cincinnati Auto Credit was founded because we knew good people go through hard times, and that shouldn’t keep them from having the chance to own a dependable car.
Unfortunately, many people are finding themselves in hard times lately. Whether it’s the down economy, inflated prices at the gas pump and the grocery store, high rents or upside-down housing market, there’s a lot more of our neighbors who suddenly find themselves without the credit to buy the vehicles they need to get on with their lives.
Buyer Beware
To make a scary situation even scarier, there are some bad actors out there who prey on these car shoppers who are new to having bad credit. They’ve suddenly realized how many customers can’t find the cars they need, and will pop up a corner lot or offer cars for sale online. Most of these cars for sale do not come with a warranty included in the sale price. Some will be offered to purchase a warranty for an extra $2,000, which is maintained by a 3rd party administrator company- meaning that drivers have to visit a different location to have their vehicles diagnosed and front the money for any necessary repairs. Even after all of that, the 3rd party company might not approve all of the repair costs, leaving the driver on the hook for whatever’s left of the bill.
It’s always important to make sure there’s a warranty included when purchasing a pre-owned vehicle, but it’s never been more important than now. The supply of used cars entering the marketplace after the COVID pandemic has dwindled. Many of the vehicles available today have been neglected by their former owners and are in need of repair. But since they’re all that’s left, they’re towed to the new used car pop-up lot on the corner or posted on Facebook marketplace, knowing that people will need to buy them and the seller can make a quick buck on a bad sale.
